Hi everyone! Hurricane Ike was an adventure! It hit us on Saturday September 13th, 2008. Bart was required to work in the emergency operations center at the hospital. He had to sleep there for a few nights. During that time the girls and I went to Tomball, Texas which is located about 30 miles north of Houston. We stayed with Mike and Shellie Lamkin so we wouldn't have to be alone. The hurricane brought howling winds, pounding rain, and darkness. After it passed we had some big thunderstorms and more rain. We had some flooding, downed trees, and minimal damage to our apartment. The worst part of the storm was dealing with no power for 6 days! All and all we survived and learned a lot. Take home message: Build your food storage! and have a 72-hour kit (or in our case a 144-hour kit) complete with candles, wind up lights, a radio and propane.
